About George and Dragon

4.5 / 5

from reviews

Located in the heart of Salisbury, Wiltshire. The George and Dragon was built in 1530 and spent many years as a house of ill repute! It's said a lady once had her tounge cut out in one of the courting rooms!

Nowadays it's a lot more family friendly.

Ranked in the top 20 of Salisbury's Tripadvisor, Brandon and Nathan strive to bring you tasty dishes. While Anna, Paula and Koerie ensure your service is top notch and your drinks are perfect!

Why not pop down and meet the team!

Beer is good. Food is okay. They host a music open night which gives this place the vibe it has. If you donot wanna sit infront of the band then there is ample space behind the bar which goes up to a stream of water.

Lovely food, the Salt & Pepper Squid was cooked perfectly as was the Lamb Shank Roast, both were very tasty. The service needs a bit of tweaking, asking if people had finished their food is good, but check on drinks as well. They missed out on a couple of rounds. Overall it was a really nice night, food was great and the atmosphere picked up when the live music kicked in.

Came here to play Dungeons and Dragons, and Phil (who I think is the owner?) was very lovely and allowed me to purchase a kid's meal, because that's all I could afford. He was happy for me to have a kid's meal and didn't stipulate that you can only get them up to a certain age, which a lot of places do. The scampi, chips and beans was tasty, hot, arrived quickly and filled a Half-Orc sized hole. The Dragon Sunrise cocktail was delicious and a great deal of £7, too! And I didn't even have to fight a Dragon for it! Phil was easy going and laid back and we learnt about the history of the pub. The decor was great, from dragon paintings, to swords, a shield, a Welsh dragon (bonus points from this Welshie!) and lots of beer labels and stickers on the walls/bar posts, and even in the toilets. It immediately felt welcoming; how a tavern should be, and no undesirables, such as Necromancers or Goblins on site. This Half-Orc and Human Companion had a great time and both will definitely be back, for the food, the company, and the booze. (And probably another D&D session.)

Lovely staff, great atmosphere. I gave the food 5 stars but didn't there to be honest. Looked great and was cheap. Great jam night with some hugely talented folk giving their all. Would love to come again though it's unlikely as we live 8 hours away and are only here to see the henge. All the other pubs we visited either lacked charm despite looking beautiful or were lacking something to make them unique. As a pub management couple we loved the effort, environment and atmosphere. You all should be proud. Best pub in Salisbury by a long way.

Lovely pub just outside the city centre. Very pleasant staff. Nice food and beer. Garden has ample seating a covered area with four tables also plenty on the lawn which goes down to the river. Highly recommend.
